Bombay Talkies is an 80 minute movie, which is made of four different 20-minute short movies directed by four different directors. Each movie has a distinct core and tells us a unlike story. Bombay Talkies is directed by Anurag Kashyap, Karan Johar, Zoya Akhtar, and Dibaker Banerjee. The movie Bombay Talkies stars hordes of actors such as Amitabh Bachchan, Rani Mukerji, Randeep Hooda, Saqib Saleem, Katrina Kaif, Sadashiv Amrapurkar, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Ranvir Shorey, Sudhir Pandey, master Naman Jain etc.
Karan Johar’s film in Bombay Talkies deals with the lives of three individuals (Rani Mukerji, Randeep Hooda and Saqib Saleem) and how their emotional baggage affects their human relationship. Rani plays the role of a journalist and a repressed wife of Hooda in Karan’s segment. The movie was shot in real locations of Bandra and Dahisar. Zoya’s movie revolves around the life of a little boy and stars Katrina Kaif and master Naman Jain, who played the role of Jhangya in Chillar Party. It narrates us the story of a small boy (Naman) who is very much obsessed with the famed actress Katrina Kaif, that at one point of time, he even begins to imitate like her. It is plainly based on a real-life kid, to which Zoya personally met her few years ago.
Dibakar Banerjee’s movie shows us the life of a failed actor and how he comes to believe that his life is full of waste and loser too. According to Dibakar, this one has a very little social subtext unlike his other movies. Finishing the quartet is Anurag Kashyap’s movie that talks about the legendary Amitabh Bachchan and his famous home, Prateeksha. It tells us how many normal people from all over comes to meet especially Big B and wait for long hours outside his house, just to have one glimpse of the megastar. Anurag has shot some portions of this movie using hidden cameras at the Kumbh Mela.
The director reasons that since his story deals with the life of a common man from Allahabad (where the Mela is held) who comes to Mumbai, these visuals will add a real feel to the movie.
Bombay Talkies is being especially made to give tribute and honor the 100 years of Indian Cinema by four different versatile filmmakers.
